Fried Chicken Showdown
12/22/2014 11:11:00 PMLadies and gentlemen, I bring you the showdown of two of my all time favourite fried chicken stores. KFC is out of the question 'cuz it's too mainstream lol.
Shilin vs Taiwan's no 1 fried chicken store, 豪大大鸡排.
It was my first time tasting the fried chicken of "hao da da" at the branch here in sg after eating it for the first time last year in Taiwan. Whereas I ate Shilin once in a few months at Seremban.
Now, Shi lin is actually a famous night market at Taiwan. Whereas hdd is the most famous snack out of Shi lin night market. So I guess both shops origin from shi lin, Taiwan? Hahah.
I'm sure most people are more familiar of Shilin so I won't post a pic of it. Here's a pic of hdd.
Okay let's get down to this.
The cost for one big piece of fried chicken + drink costs 4.90 sg dollar at hdd. You can even choose what flavour you want as the topping. There's quite a few sauces to choose from, I chose black pepper.
There are thousands of pics if you google it. I actually took a photo of it using i4 but it doesn't look that scrumptious and nice as I'm gonna describe later, so google it.
Boy, it tastes so soooooo so nice. Like super nice. It fits all the description of the heavenly fried chicken there at the website. Just take the first bite and you'll feel like "Ughhhh, this is damn good."
You may think that it is also unfair for me to compare with Shilin coz I ordered the black pepper flavour. But not all of it are topped with the sauce. Also, I tried the few bites of the chicken without the sauce first before eating the one with sauce. I'm running out of words but damn, it's so good.
The cost for one big piece of fried chicken without drinks and stuffs costs 4.50 sg dollar at Shilin. There, you can only choose whether you want it spicy or not. And by spicy, it's the spices that makes it spicy not the chicken itself.
It tastes good too. I tried one piece on spot since it was cut into pieces. It's really tasty but if I were to compare it to hdd, I'd choose hdd.
No, I'm not being my cheapskate self now by comparing the two prices and choose one based on it. When it comes to food, it's the taste that counts. And for me, hdd had the better taste. I'm judging it based on the fried chicken serving I tasted yesterday. Hey maybe they'll hold an international fried chicken contest and shilin turned out to be the winner, I don't know. But for now, hdd wins.
Sadly the location of hdd store at Jurong point mall was quite isolated and not that many people pass by there compared to Shilin's branch located at the bottom floor where people pass by very often as it was close to the platform to take the bus.
This is solely based of me and my mom's opinion. Basically all fried chicken are nice lol.
xoxo
